kid cudi - revofev (audio)
7.02.2010 @ 12:44 AM

'REVOFEV,' pronounced "rev of ev," as in, revolution of evolution, is the first single from Brooklyn-based rapper Kid Cudi's upcoming album, 'Man On the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager.' Got all that?

Stabbing bursts of piano, infectious "whoa-oh-oh-ooooohh" chants and duck-call electric guitars punch up the song's reggae-influenced drumbeat, as Cudi speak-sings his prophecies for a bright future: "Let go life does get tough / No need to stress / Hold you back too much / Let's go I heard they found the solution / Where you be for the revolution?"

In a recent interview with hiphopdx.com, Cudi stated that the new album: "is dark by nature, and instead of bringing you into my dreams like my first album [2009's 'Man on the Moon: the End of Day'], I'm bringing you into my reality, good and bad. It will explain more of who I am as well as pushing the envelope musically."

'Man on the Moon II' is due in stores on Sept. 14. Until then...

janelle monáe x lupe fiasco x b.o.b. - tightrope [wondamix] (audio)
7.01.2010 @ 9:55 PM

Just when we were beginning to wonder what the hell was up with a guest rapper-laden remix to Janelle Monae‘s ArchAndroid jump-off cut, the funky cyborg drops this “Wondamix”, which finds her recruiting a couple new emcees to take a tip on the tightrope alongside her, while also taking the time to loosen up her black & white tux (no other colors needed) and drop a few rhymes of her own.

And while it features killer verses from Lupe Fiasco and (the seemingly everywhere) B.o.B (“There are no apologies/ For dropping all these prophecies/ Breaking over barriers/ You juggernauts ain’t stoppin’ me” goes one of many lyrical highlights in the latter’s feverish sixteen), and a tough whittling down of the original’s hectic JB groove to a lean bass and fuzzed-out guitar combo, it’s Monae-as-B-girl who ends up truly stealing the show, whether cutting down wannabe fashion critics (“T-t-t-talking about/ ‘Wh-wh-why don’t she change her clothes?’/ Well they ain’t seem to mind the last three times I posed in Vogue”) or boasting “I can’t pause/ I balance all like I’m Dominique Dawes”.

Girl, you bad.

nike sb july 2010 releases
@ 5:27 PM

A new month means a new set of footwear from Nike SB. July features an even mix of subtle and crazy looks from the Swoosh skateboarding department, so let’s have a gander at the whole set. On the calmer side of things, we have two new Nike SB Dunks designed by skater and artist Neil Blender, a High and a Low both inspired by OG colorways of the late ’80s/early ’90s Airwalk Enigma. The hightops from the ‘Chromeball Incident’ pack have a scissors embroidery, while the latest Blazer SB CS actually rises to the mid-ankle height common for cut-off skate kicks.

The Blazer Low’s SB replacement, the Nike Zoom Bruin SB is back in the simplest of all colorways: black/white, with Stefan Janoski’s signature also appearing in a two-toned colorway whose pine green upper matches the vibrancy of summer foliage. Last but certainly not least is fellow SB rider Omar Salazar’s signature in a purple/green colorway that’s far more skate-friendly than the similarly hewn Dinosaur Jr. collabo from a few months back. Click the jump below for shots of the entire range and check for these at your local Nike SB retailer.

nike sb june 2010 releases
5.31.2010 @ 12:16 PM

Summer is not just a time for fun in the sun, but it is also the time when one gears up for the best releases– summer blockbusters, apparel, and of course, sneakers. For Nike SB’s June 2010 sneaker release, some highly coveted models will finally be hitting stores and the insatiable sneaker pot (which should be found somewhere between your heart and your stomach). For instance, the bright yellow Omar Salazaar signature model– also one of the coolest skate shoes around that is extra lightweight and supportive with Nike Flywire technology, and the cool grey Nike Zoom Paul Rodriguez 3 with fresh green accents that will be perfect for summer.

Aside from the signature models (also worth mentioning is the Nike Zoom Paul Rodriguez 2.5 which shares a colorway similar to Parra’s collaboration with Nike from before), the Nike SB classics such as the Classic High, Dunk Hi, Dunk Low and Blazer SB have all gotten a palette make over. Orange and black turns out to be quite a key palette for June even though it is neither fall nor Halloween, and another cool pair to note is the Eric Koston Dunk Low Premium SB in a Thailand inspired colorway of blue, red and opulent gold.

Check out your nearest Nike SB dealer for some sweet kicks this summer, be it a versatile grey addition or a sunshine yellow pair to fulfill all your skating whims.

lost in the willderness X the remix project - in search of gotham
@ 9:51 PM

“IN SEARCH OF GOTHAM”

Chris Bosh and one of The Remix Project’s official photographers William Nguyen launches debut photography exhibition in the cross streets of urban decay and urban renewal.
Gotham City, a fictional city appearing in DC Comics, is best known as the home of Batman. Batman’s place of residence was first identified as Gotham City in Batman #4 (Winter 1940).

Reinterpreting Toronto as the mythical Gotham City, photographer William Nguyen highlights the Mega City’s gothic, seedier side giving us a glimpse of what Toronto might look like if the caped crusader indeed roamed our streets.
Believing firmly that we all have superheroes resting somewhere within our breast, William Nguyen’s “In Search of Gotham” exhibition is as much an expression of love for his city as much as it is a call to action to it’s citizens.

“I always loved batman growing up. For the obvious reason that he looked cool, but also because of what he represented. He’s an ordinary man, with no super powers. Fueled and motivated by the things that happened/are happening around him. He took action to change things, at the same time sacrificing his life. He sacrificed love, a personal life and maybe even a reputation for the greater good. The goal was to make a difference and inspire others when they had lost reason to believe in better things. I frequently assess my life and found some similarities. Obviously I’m not doing what batman does, but I am him, to a smaller degree, in my own way. And, if I am batman, than this, Toronto, is my Gotham City.
We can be anything we can imagine, the question is, when do we start converting our imagination to reality. This series is my attempt to realize that dream and show people that the fantastical exists in our everyday. We just need to recognize that.”
– William Nguyen

Urban decay and potential meet seamlessly at “Unit C” located at 102 Ossington, Unit C for this exciting new show. A rough space of pockmarked concrete, old graffiti tags and sparkling new dry wall, “Unit C” on the developing Ossington strip is the perfect home for In Search of Gotham.

Artist, William Nguyen, in attendance.
A percentage of all sales will be donated to registered charity, The Remix Project.

drake feat. alicia keys - fireworks (audio)
@ 1:44 AM

Money just changed everything, I wonder how life without it would go
From the concrete who knew that a flower would grow
Lookin’ down from the top and its crowded below
My fifteen minutes started an hour ago
Truth over fame, you know I respect the blatant shit
When I hear talkin, I just dont know what to make of it
Hate is so familiar to me, I’m slowly embracing it

Doesn’t come natural, bear with me it could take a bit
Yeah, and my dreams who I'm racing with
You can see Im pacin it so that Im always chasin it
Wayne put me right here, thats who I get the paper with
I hope that my success never alters our relationship
Yeah, this life is something I would die for
Octobers Own, but its lookin like July 4th
But I just wish theyd let you try it first
This time Im really goin off, fireworks

I got this one girl, you know, in my life
So I say in this song, I say
I’m just such a gentleman
You should give it up for me
Look at how I’m placing al my napkins and my cutlery
I can tell it wasn’t love I just thought you fuck with me
Who coulda predicted love could strike now you stuck with me
Yeh, I kept my wits about me luckilly
What happened between us that night it always seems to trouble me
Now all of a sudden these gossip brags wanna cover me
And you making it seem that it happened that way because of me
But I was curious and I’ll never forget it baby
What an experience
You coulda been the one but it wasnt that serious
Their was smoke in the air before now its me clearing it
That felt good, all and all I learned a lesson from it though
You never see it coming you just get to see it go
Yeah I shoulda looked up in the sky at first
Now I see it in her eyes
Fireworks!
